Biography
About Barb
A life built in Sioux Lookout.
Early Life & Family
Barb Molstad was born and raised in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. She grew up in a family with deep roots in the community — her father worked as a CN engineer, part of the railway tradition that shaped the town's identity and economy for generations.
Her mother operated Friendly Freddies, a local restaurant and convenience store that became a familiar gathering place for Sioux Lookout residents. Growing up in a family business gave Barb an early understanding of community, service, and what it means to be part of the fabric of a small town.

Friendly Freddies & Sam's Place
Barb later took over the family business and transformed it into Sam's Place, which became a well-known and well-loved gathering spot for local high school students. Sam's Place was more than a business — it was a community institution, a place where young people in Sioux Lookout came together.
Running Sam's Place gave Barb firsthand experience in the realities of small business ownership, customer relationships, and the role that local businesses play in the social life of a community.
Molstad Realty
After her years in the food service business, Barb built a successful career in real estate. She eventually purchased the real estate business where she had been working, establishing Molstad Realty and becoming a licensed real estate broker.
Through Molstad Realty, Barb has helped countless Sioux Lookout residents buy and sell homes — one of the most significant decisions in a family's life. Her work has given her a deep understanding of the local housing market, property values, and the challenges facing residents who want to put down roots in the community.

A Candidacy Rooted in Experience
Barb is running for Municipal Council because she believes that Sioux Lookout's future is best served by people who know it deeply — its history, its people, and its potential. Her candidacy is built on a lifetime of experience as a resident, a business owner, and a community volunteer.
